IXMIQUILPAN
Templo y ex Convento de San Miguel Arcángel (The San Miguel Arcangel Temple and Old Convent)
This is an Augustinian structure built in the typical convent/fortress style dating back to the 16th century. It is of great interest because it is made up of many different styles.
Templo de El Carmen (El Carmen Temple)
This is one of the few elaborate works in the state that dates back to the 17th century, with an exaggerated facade of great artistic style.
La Diana Cazadora
The main plaza holds the famous sculpture of La Diana Cazadora. The replica of this sculpture can be found in the Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City.
Balneario el Te-Pathé (Te-Pathé Spa)
This is a very large and beautiful spa. It has a water park with water slides, a swimming pool and a diving board and restaurant.
Paraíso Humedades
This is a place for family fun! There is a water park with a capacity of 400 people. It has two swimming pools, lots of green areas with palm trees, camping, and plenty of parking.
Parque Acuático Club Alcántara (Alcántara Club Water Park)
This is a water park with a capacity of 200 people. There is a swimming pool and water slide, a hotel, restaurant, bar, a building for events and plenty of parking.
ACTOPAN
Templo y ex Convento de San Nicolás de Tolentino (The San Nicolás de Tolentino Temple and Old Convent)
This temple was founded in the year 1550 by the Augustines and is considered one of a kind with its grandiose and elegant Mexican colonial architecture.
El Mercado de Actopan (The Actopan Market)
Every Wednesday, for more than 400 years, the city has had an outdoor market. The streets of Actopan are adorned with supplies like saddlery, colorful textiles, hats, showy alpisteras (small cakes), fruits and vegetables, artistic wax candles, fine shawls and delicate crafts so tourists can have a memory of their visit.
Centro Histórico (Historical Center)
Recently remodeled, the Historical Center of the City of Actopán has refurbished the original architecture and 16th century urban decorations making it a splendid work of art.
Pinturas Rupestres del Arco (Arco Cave Paintings)
The caves are located on the border of the city of Actopan. One of the paintings is of a mature woman. Her right hand holds the sun and her other hand holds the moon.
Los Órganos (ó Los Frailes)
Near this city are gigantic monoliths. Due to the high altitude of their location, the monoliths can be admired from all over the state. It is a very popular destination for mountain and rock climbers.
CARDONAL
Parroquia de la Purísima Concepción (Parish of the Purest Conception)
The architecture and beauty of this Church that was constructed in the 16th century is Augustine style. In the chapel are some of the most beautiful baroque altarpieces in the country.
Santuario de Mapethé (Mapethé Sanctuary)
Just seven kilometers north of the capital is a religious site of great devotion, which is visited by thousands of faithful followers.
Grutas de Tolantongo y La Gloria (Tolantongo and La Gloria Caverns)
Exuberant vegetation, waterfalls, steep mountains and hills form the natural surroundings of this beautiful area.
Pinturas Rupestres (Cave Paintings)
In Rancheria del Santuario, on the south face of the rocks, are small cave paintings in red paint.
TECOZAUTLA
Reloj Monumental (Monumental Clock)
Tourists can visit the magnificent rock tower located in the center of the city.
Parroquia de San Santiago Apóstol (San Santiago Apóstol Parish)
This temple was constructed between 1690 and 1700.
Acueducto de los Arcos (ó Puente Colonial)
The “Acueducto de los Arcos,” southeast of town, was constructed during the colonial era in 1702.
Cascada El Tagui (El Tagui Waterfall)
A gorgeous hot spring called “Tlaxidhó” can be found at this waterfall. The hot spring is approximately 1 ½ meters deep at the side of the ravine. Visitors and tourists will enjoy the beautiful view and it is the perfect place to camp.
Géiser
In Tecozautla, near the town of Uxdejhé, you will find a magnificent natural hot spring with steamy, hot water that gets as high as 95º C. The water is later channeled to ponds with more pleasant temperatures.
Balneario El Arenal
This is a place to enjoy the beauty and the serenity of natural, cooler, constantly moving waters with a temperature of 38° C. This area also offers campsites, areas for barbecuing, soccer fields, and volleyball courts.
Balneario Gandhó
If you close your eyes at the Balneario Gandho which means “stone that sounds”, you will think you are in paradise with the ideal climate and beautiful flora. The crystal clear waters stay around 35° C with areas for children to swim, campgrounds, and other outdoor activities.
TASQUILLO
Balneario Tzindejhé
The large alkaline pond and smaller pool have temperate waters that come from the natural spring at about 35° C. From the springs, you can see the Moctezuma River.
SANTIAGO DE ANAYA
Iglesia del Señor de Santiago (Señor de Santiago Church)
Located in the Independence Plaza, in the center of the town, you’ll find, undoubtedly the most impressive church in the city. Students of architecture will be able to appreciate its complex beauty.
Grutas de Xoxafi (Xoxafi Caverns)
These caverns are perfect for spelunkers and adventure sports enthusiasts.
HUICHAPAN
Templo y ex Convento de San Mateo (San Mateo Temple and Old Convent)
The Augustine convent was built by Captain Manuel Gonzalez de Leon. Two remarkable altarpieces stand in the large atrium, one dedicated to the Life of Christ and the other to the Virgin Mary. The church has a simple facade and an open bell-tower. To the left can be seen an open chapel standing in front of a tall tower which was built later. The cloister ceiling is painted with frescos.
La Capilla de la Tercera Orden (The Chapel of the Third Order)
These two facades date from the 18th century and feature unique ornamental design typical of churches built during that time.
Capilla del Calvario (Calvario Chapel)
This chapel was built in the 18th century, thanks to the church’s benefactor, Manuel Gonzales de León, a native of Huichapan who was a captain of the Spanish infantry. The ornate facade of the church is made of stone with thin lines that give the impression of soft movement. Beautiful sculptures surround the ledges that represent the descent of Christ and a Blessed Virgin in the vestry.
Acueducto San José
In Saucillo, you’ll find the San Jose Aqueduct, a monumental work constructed in the 16th century to provide water to the people of the area. 14 of the impressive arches remain.
